The worship of God is at the center of our life as a parish community.
We gather week by week to share in the Holy Eucharist (also called communion or mass), and to hear God's word read and proclaimed.
The Parish of The Good Shepherd worships in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of Anglicanism, which means that we emphasize the continuity of Catholic worship through the ages. People raised in the Roman Catholic Church will find many similarities with their church and our style of worship. Whereas, Protestants will recognize and appreciate our emphasis on: the freedom of individual conscience; the equality of women in the church; and the prerogative given to the lay person in making decisions.
“Because of Father Welch, I always leave church with something
to think about, on how to improve my spiritual and earthly life.”
Parish Choir
The Good Shepherd Parish Choir is a small, well balanced, and carefully trained ensemble dedicated to being an integral part of our worship through hymns, anthems, and service music. The choir sings a variety of works, mostly from the Anglican and Latin choral traditions. Most works are sung with no instrumental accompaniment. The choristers include both professional and dedicated volunteer members. New members with the ability to sing in tune, a basic level of music reading ability, and the desire to work cooperatively with this lively and committed group, are encouraged and welcomed. Good Shepherd is always looking for qualified singers. If you are interested in volunteer membership in the choir, or are a professional desiring an audition for addition to the paid substitute list please contact Dr. Carl Klein, our Organist-Choirmaster, at 617-244-4028.
Service and Rehearsal Times
The choir sings at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Eucharist each week (except during late June, July and August) as well as at evening services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Eve, and Christmas Eve. Choral Evensong and Benediction is usually scheduled once per year. Rehearsals are held at 8:45 a.m. each Sunday, with very occasional special rehearsals.
